
At The Wolf School, every staff member brings a unique journey and deep commitment to supporting Complex Learners. In today’s We Are Wolf, learn more about Kristyn Sequira, a dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist who joined the Wolf community in 2014. From early inspiration to everyday impact, Kristyn’s story highlights the heart behind the work and the powerful connections built within the Wolf community.
1. Can you tell us briefly about your background and how you came to work at Wolf?
One of my final clinical placements in graduate school was at The Groden Center, and it shaped so much of who I am as a clinician. My supervisor there knew of The Wolf School and encouraged me to reach out. So, right after graduation, I contacted Rosy Granoff. A couple of days later, she called me back, and I remember being so nervous because she wanted to interview me over the phone—and I really, really hoped to work at Wolf. Thankfully, the conversation went wonderfully, and I was hired. It felt like a perfect fit!
2. What made you want to work with Complex Learners?
My time at The Groden Center taught me an incredible amount about Complex Learners. I had the opportunity to work with kids of all ages, strengths, and learning styles. Every day felt new, exciting, and meaningful. I could see the impact I was having on their overall well‑being, and I knew I wanted to continue supporting learners who think and communicate in unique ways.
3. What do you feel is the most misunderstood or surprising part of being an SLP?
When people hear “SLP,” they often jump straight to, “Oh, you work on speech sounds.” And while articulation is certainly one part of the job, it’s actually a very small slice of what we do. SLPs support students across a wide range of areas—language, cognition, social communication, voice, fluency, feeding, and AAC, just to name a few. Our work touches so many aspects of a student’s ability to communicate, learn, and participate meaningfully in their world.
4. What is your favorite Wolf School tradition?
Field Day—hands down. And having Spike’s hot dog truck there makes it even better!
5. What is a quote or motto that inspires you?
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” — Maya Angelou
It’s a quote I try to live by, and it reminds me to bring compassion, patience, and positivity into everything I do with my students.
