We Are Wolf: Julia McKay

It’s time to meet one of the newest members of the Wolf School community, our fabulous Occupational Therapist, Julia McKay! Julia joined Wolf this September and has dived right into learning the Wolf Way. Learn more about her in this month’s We Are Wolf interview.

1. Can you briefly tell us about your background before coming to Wolf?

Prior to coming to Wolf, my OT experience was primarily in outpatient pediatric settings. In addition to outpatient, I also worked at a children’s hospital which I currently still do on a per diem basis. Although I serviced a variety of diagnoses and ages, my passion was with feeding, and oral motor skills especially with the infant population.

2. What motivated you to want to work as an OT in a school setting?

It has always been a goal of mine to end up in a school system. Both of my parents are teachers, so growing up I was exposed to the world of education more than most, and always felt that it was an environment that I wanted to be involved in. I enjoy that as an occupational therapist, I get to see my students in their naturalistic environment and provide intervention/environmental modifications in real time.

3. What are you most looking forward to in regards to your role at Wolf?

Working at Wolf, I am most looking forward to getting to know the students and faculty. Additionally, I am thrilled to be a part of a multi-disciplinary team to problem solve academic successes and challenges and view the student/learner from different lenses.

4. What is your favorite thing about Wolf so far?

My favorite thing about Wolf so far is the family feel that the school has. It is such a welcoming environment and the students and faculty made it incredibly easy to transition into a new role with comfort and ease.

5. What are some of your go-to strategies that you use at work or in life?

Some strategies that I like to use to feel regulated are reading, taking some space in a quiet area, and exercising/walking my dog!

Welcome to Wolf, Julia! We’re thrilled you’re here! To learn more about other Wolf Staff, read some of our past We Are Wolf interviews!
