A New Chapter: Encouraging a love of reading

November brings with it many highly anticipated events – Thanksgiving, the start of the holiday season, and for Wolf School students, the best one of all – the Book Fair. Each year, the Wolf School Parent Organization (WSPO) helps to set up and organize the Scholastic Book Fair at our school, transforming our gym into a fabulous book store that students can’t wait to see.

2018 Book FairThis year, the WSPO gave each student a $10 gift certificate to use at the book fair allowing every student to pick out a new book. Picking out their own book feels very special to our students, and encourages them to get excited about reading. This is a magical thing, especially considering the struggles many students had with reading prior to attending The Wolf School. Before coming to Wolf, reading was looked upon with fear, dread, and anxiety. But now our students find enjoyment in reading and feel pride in picking a “just right” book to read.

Our students were so grateful for the WSPO’s generosity that they even took it upon themselves to write thank you notes! Check out some excerpts below:

2018 Book Fair

“Thank you for the $10, and setting up the book fair. I bought two Dog Man books. I loved going to the book fair. The book fair was cozy.”

“Thank you for giving us $10.00 it was very thoughtful. I love the book so far. You are the best.”

“Thank you for giving us $10.00 and setting up the book fair. I got the book Smile. Can’t wait to read it!”

Helping students develop a love of reading is critical to their academic and personal growth. Thank you to the WSPO for supporting this important goal and for all their hard work putting together another successful and enjoyable book fair!
